WHAT TO PACK FOR THE HOSPITAL

Print and check off as you pack for the hospital

For you:

o Hospital preregistration, health insurance info
o Birth plan (if you have one)
o Check or credit card for prepayment of anesthesia (if applicable)
o Nightgowns (front closing if you plan to breastfeed)
o Bathrobe
o Thick socks or slippers
o Headband or ponytail holders
o Glasses and/or contact lens supplies
o 2 nursing bras (if nursing)
o Nursing pads (whether you nurse or not)
o Cotton undies
o Toiletries: Toothbrush/paste, soaps, shampoos, hair brush, blow dryer, curling iron, hairspray, make up etc...
o Massage oil or lotion
o Chapstick or lip balm (to keep lips moist)
o Lollipops or hard candies to keep your mouth moist
o Maternity outfit or loose fitting clothes to wear home
o A watch or clock with a second hand
o Pencil and pad
o Diversions (books, magazines, journal, announcements)
o Film & camera (plus spare batteries)
o Camcorder (plus spare batteries/tapes)
o Spare disposable camera (in case your usual camera or video camera won't function properly)
o Portable cd player with headphones & CD's
o Cell phone or calling card
o Personal phone numbers
o Coins for phones and vending machines
o Pillows in pillowcases (so they don't get mixed with hospitals/birth centers)
o Your partner's or labor support person's bathing suit (if accompany you in shower/tub during labor)
o A change of clothes and a few basic toiletries for your partner
o Daddy snacks (non-perishable)
o Bottle of non-alcoholic champagne/glasses

For Baby:
o Going home outfit
o sweater, snowsuit or heavy blanket (depending on season)
o baby cap or hat
o booties or socks
o mittens to keep baby from scratching face
o Receiving blanket
o Rear-facing car seat
